Lose The Shoes / INSPI(RED) Soccer
submitted by Megan Pocock on January 24, 2012
Lose the Shoes engages thousands of students in 3v3 barefoot soccer tournaments that save lives. All funds raised through Lose the Shoes benefit Grassroot Soccer (GRS), an international nonprofit that uses the power of soccer to prevent the spread of AIDS and save lives among those with the highest rates of new infections—youth in Africa.
While the tournament is not unique to Notre Dame, we have a unique connection, as men’s soccer coach Bobby Clark’s son, Tommy, founded Grassroot Soccer after tragically learning about his former teammates in Africa who passed away from the AIDS virus. Although Grassroots Soccer has recently changed the branding of the tournament to INSPI(RED) Soccer, Notre Dame's relationship with the non-profit has allowed us to build a tradition with the Lose the Shoes brand and continue to grow our participation rates each year.
