Summer Book Distribution
submitted by Mary Barrett on May 14, 2012
Ending with a recent distribution of 25,000 books, Books for Keeps and the Terry College of Business's Volunteer Dawgs program helped collect, sort, and distribute books to local elementary school students as they get ready for summer vacation. Over the course of 2012, dozens of UGA MBA students have helped Books for Keeps with their work in reducing illiteracy rates in the Athens-Clarke County area. Books for Keeps gives away twelve books to every elementary school student in a program aimed at helping disadvantaged children learn to read.
This year UGA MBA students have helped Books for Keeps with strategic planning and marketing efforts. Students also spent many hours sorting books in a warehouse and preparing for the end-of-school year distribution. On May 9th, students were able to see the fruits of much effort when they visited Fowler Elementary School and distributed books to hundreds of elementary school students.
