A Night of Art and Blues
submitted by Megan Pocock on May 18, 2012
The event was hosted at O’Brien’s Pub in the Notre Dame Compton Family Ice Arena. It was a great night, with about 275 people, an open bar, lots of great food, live blues music, and a festive silent auction. The primary feature was the silent auction which featured original, high-quality art created by people with Down syndrome, often working directly with local artists. There was also a large number of interesting items (e.g. a getaway on Lake Michigan for 22 guests, Keurig machines, private dinner events, etc.) to bid on as well. Members of the MBA Veterans Club donated their time to secure corporate sponsorships, sell tickets, and work at the event. All of the money raised will support RDS (Research Down Syndrome), a 501(c)(3) organization with an all-star scientific advisory board that directs money straight to the research labs that are making these breakthroughs.
